NFL OC Hypes Stafford Over Maye After MVP Debate, 'Don't Know If I Have Seen Anyone Play Like This'
Los Angeles Rams veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford was named 2025 NFL MVP over New England Patriots signal-caller Drake Maye, but the debate rages on.
The Athletic's Mike Sando admitted that he voted for Maye on his MVP ballot, but he spoke to an offensive coordinator from another team who felt that Stafford set himself apart from the rest of the pack this season.
"In Maye, I see a really good player who is on an unbelievably sound team that is well coached," the OC said, "whereas when I watch Matt Stafford, I'm thinking, 'I don't know if I have seen anyone play like this. This is ridiculous.'"

Report: Seahawks Sign Veteran Edge

Projecting NFL Teams Most Likely to Tank for 2027 📉
Stafford led the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. He helped the Rams finish with a 12-5 record and advance to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks, who defeated Maye and the Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday.
Sando noted that he voted for Maye because the second-year quarterback "finished the regular season with statistical edges over Stafford in yards per attempt, passer rating, QB EPA per game started and EPA per play" and also "had much less talent around him." However, after watching the 23-year-old's struggles in the playoffs, Sando admitted, "Stafford felt like the real MVP. He was always the better player."
Maye's success this season proves that he has a bright future in the NFL, but Stafford was the rightful MVP winner this year.
