How Cam Ward Impacted Brian Daboll's Decision to Sign Titans OC Contract After Giants Exit
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward's presence reportedly played a major factor in how this year's coaching hiring cycle played out.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that the Titans having Ward on the roster "was a big piece to the puzzle" for Brian Daboll when he chose to join the team as the offensive coordinator on head coach Robert Saleh's staff after being fired by the New York Giants.
Breer added that he was surprised at how much prospective coaching candidates "thought of Cam Ward when considering the different available jobs." The 2025 No. 1 overall pick is a promising young talent who is coming off a lackluster rookie year.

Ward played all 17 games for the 3-14 Titans and threw for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 59.8 percent of his passes. He was sacked a whopping 55 times, which tied for the highest mark in the NFL alongside Las Vegas Raiders veteran quarterback Geno Smith. The young signal-caller also led the league with seven lost fumbles.
While the end of Daboll's tenure with the Giants was partly due to his questionable development of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, he should benefit from a fresh start down South. Daboll long has been known for his offensive acumen, and the last quarterback he developed as an OC was Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen.
The Titans are certainly hoping that Daboll will have a similar impact on Ward, as their connection will be a driving force behind the team's success in 2026 and beyond.
