Diamondbacks to Wear Awesome Randy Johnson Patches on Number Retirement Night

Kyle NewportAug 4, 2015

The Arizona Diamondbacks have found an awesome way to honor one of the greatest players in franchise history.

On Saturday, the Diamondbacks will retire Randy Johnson's No. 51. In the spirit of the event, the team will be wearing top-notch commemorative patches.

Here's how the patches will look on Arizona's hats:

The only thing that could make the Big Unit patch look any better would be wearing throwback uniforms on Saturday.

Johnson spent eight (1999-2004, 2007-08) of his 22 MLB seasons with Arizona. The southpaw went 118-62 with a 2.83 ERA and 2,077 strikeouts with the team. He also threw the franchise's lone perfect game.

During his time in the desert, the Big Unit made five All-Star teams and won four consecutive National League Cy Young awards (1999-2002). He also led the Diamondbacks to their first and only World Series title in 2001, sharing the World Series MVP award with Curt Schilling.

The 51-year-old Johnson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this year.
