Stefon Diggs Addresses Patriots Future After NFL Super Bowl 60 Loss to Seahawks
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs told reporters after his team's 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX that he wants to remain with the Pats next year.
Diggs signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Pats last offseason, but there's a potential out in the deal this offseason.
The Patriots would save $20.8 million in cap space if they designate Diggs as a post-June 1 cut, per Over the Cap. He is owed $1.7 million more in guaranteed salary in 2026.
The contract itself is significantly backloaded, with cap numbers of $26.5 million in 2026 and 2027.
Diggs suffered a torn ACL in Oct. 2024 while playing with the Houston Texans, ending his season. He then authored a fantastic comeback story with the Patriots, amassing 85 catches for 1,013 yards (both figures led the team) alongside four touchdowns. Diggs played an instrumental role in the Pats' turnaround from 4-13 to 14-3 and the AFC's No. 2 seed. The Patriots also won the AFC for the first time since 2018.
Diggs didn't have a great playoff run (although the Pats' offense as a whole went largely dormant), catching just 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in three games. Still, he was a great pickup for the Patriots as they surge ahead and hope to remain a perennial playoff and championship contender, a distinct possibility with quarterback Drake Maye running the show.
On the flip side, Diggs is entering his 12th NFL season and turns 33 next November. It's possible the Patriots could be wary of locking themselves into the backloaded portion of his contract given his age and pro mileage. The 2026 and 2027 season carry huge cap numbers as is, and that's something the Pats will have to consider.
In the end, this was a disappointing end to the Pats' season, but New England can hold its head high knowing it orchestrated a great one-year turnaround.
