Defense set the tone in the opening quarter.
Darnold guided Seattle into scoring range on the Seahawks' opening drive, setting up Jason Myers' 33-yard field goal, but points were scarce from there. Both defenses tightened, holding the teams scoreless the rest of the period.
Seattle was limited to a three-and-out and a 3:10 drive, while New England managed little offensive rhythm, totaling 7:25 of possession with minimal movement.
Darnold outpaced Maye in passing yards, 54-14, in the first quarter as Seattle gained four first downs and held New England to three, giving the Seahawks an early edge.
2nd Quarter
Pressure dominated up front as both offensive lines struggled to protect their quarterbacks against relentless pass rushes and frequent blitzes, resulting in another defense-heavy quarter. Rather than forcing the issue, both teams played the field-position game.
Myers drilled his second and third field goals of the half to give Seattle a 9-0 lead heading into halftime, as the Seahawks consistently flipped the field and capitalized on scoring opportunities to build a two-possession advantage. New England, meanwhile, was limited to two three-and-outs as Seattle's defense continued to dictate the pace.
3rd Quarter
The Patriots opened the third quarter with three three-and-outs and capped the stretch with a quarterback sack-fumble that resulted in the game's first turnover, as Maye showed some second-year growing pains.
Darnold guided the Seahawks into field-goal range once again, and Myers knocked down a 41-yard field goal to extend Seattle's lead to 12-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
Seattle opened the quarter with a Darnold-to-AJ Barner connection to take a commanding 19-0 lead.
New England answered right away with a three-play touchdown connection from Maye to Mack Hollins as both teams scored their first touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter.
Despite a scramble by Maye for a first down, he threw an interception on the next possession that led to another Seattle field goal, pushing the lead to 22-7 and setting up Myers for a Super Bowl record for most field goals in a game.
Maye lost another fumble, which Uchenna Nwosu returned for a touchdown that ultimately sealed the win with 4:27 remaining and extended the lead to 29-7.
Though New England registered a touchdown on the following play, they failed to convert an onside kick attempt and Seattle began to celebrate, leading 29-13 with 2:21 remaining.
Box Score
Darnold set the tone in Seattle's win, throwing for 202 yards and one touchdown while completing 19-of-38 passes to secure his first Super Bowl win and Seattle's second.
In the victory, Darnold connected with AJ Barner for a touchdown and 54 yards, while Kenneth Walker III added 125 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Maye threw for two touchdowns and two interceptions, connecting with Mack Hollins and Rhamondre Stevenson for scores.
Ahead of Super Bowl 60
Seattle entered the NFL playoffs as the NFC's No. 1 overall seed, earning a first-round bye before rolling past No. 6 San Francisco 41-6 and edging No. 5 Los Angeles 31-27 to reach the league's biggest stage.
Darnold and the Seahawks finished the regular season 14-3, with losses coming against San Francisco, the Rams and Tampa Bay â two of the teams Seattle later eliminated in the postseason.
New England, meanwhile, reached the playoffs as the AFC's No. 2 seed, also at 14-3, behind second-year quarterback Maye, the league's MVP runner-up after narrowly losing out to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford by one first-place vote.
The Patriots' regular-season losses came against Las Vegas, Pittsburgh and Buffalo as they returned to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
