49ers Rumors on Potential Mac Jones Trade in NFL Offseason After Super Bowl 60
Despite Brock Purdy being entrenched as the team's starting quarterback, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly aren't interested in trading backup Mac Jones during the offseason.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Niners' "preference" is to keep both Purdy and Jones due to the success Jones had as a fill-in starter this season while Purdy was out injured.
Russini added that 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan "loves what he has" with Jones providing insurance behind Purdy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported the 49ers have "no plans" to trade Jones.
Selected 15th overall by the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL draft, Jones spent the majority of three seasons as the Pats' starter, going 18-24 with one playoff appearance and one Pro Bowl selection.
New England traded Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to the 2024 season, and he ended up making seven starts for the injured Trevor Lawrence, going 2-5.
This past offseason, the 49ers signed Jones to a two-year, $8.41 million contract, and it ended up being a move that may have saved their season.
Purdy missed eight games due to various injuries, but Jones kept the team afloat while he was on the shelf, posting a 5-3 record.
Overall, Jones appeared in 11 games and completed a career-best 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Despite dealing with significant injuries on both sides of the ball, the Niners went 12-5 and reached the playoffs. They even upset the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round before falling to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round.
Given that Purdy has missed games due to injury in each of the past two seasons, having a quality backup is paramount, as every game matters in terms of reaching the playoffs.
Jones proved this season that he is more than capable of operating Shanahan's offense at a high level, and having that in their back pocket may be more valuable to the Niners than a Day 2 or Day 3 draft pick.
