Drake Maye's Injury Status for Super Bowl 60 vs. Seahawks Revealed in Final Patriots Update
New England Patriots fans can breathe a sigh of relief because Drake Maye is in line to play with a healthy shoulder in Sunday's Super Bowl matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Patriots released Friday's injury report, and it listed Maye as a full participant in practice despite concerns about his right shoulder. He also didn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game, while Joshua Farmer (hamstring), Harold Landry (knee) and Robert Spillane (ankle) were all listed as questionable.
Maye has been a full participant in practice throughout the week and previously told reporters, "I'm feeling great. I'm so fortunate to be out here with these guys."
While New England has an experienced backup in Joshua Dobbs, its only realistic chance at winning the Lombardi Trophy is with a healthy Maye under center. After all, the second-year quarterback was excellent throughout the campaign and finished as the runner-up to Matthew Stafford in the MVP race.
The North Carolina product completed 72 percent of his passes for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions while adding 450 yards and four scores on the ground during the regular season.
However, he hasn't been quite as effective in the playoffs and even struggled in the AFC Championship Game victory over the Denver Broncos when he went 10-of-21 for 86 yards.
Fortunately for the Patriots, their defense held the Broncos to a mere seven points with backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham playing for the injured Bo Nix.
That defense won't have the benefit of playing against a backup quarterback in Sunday's Super Bowl, so the AFC representative will need Maye to be healthy and play at a higher level than he did against the Broncos.
After all, Sam Darnold is coming off a dominant NFC Championship Game in which he threw for 346 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Seattle's go-to receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba also led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards this year.
Maye will be tasked with keeping pace with that combination after a week of healthy practice.
