Chelsea Transfer News: Danny Rose Approach Made Amid Baba Rahman Rumours
Chelsea have reportedly asked Tottenham Hotspur to name their price for left-back Danny Rose as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defence ahead of the start of the Premier League season on Saturday.
The recent departure of Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid after just a season at Stamford Bridge has left Chelsea short on full-backs. Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta are now the only reliable options on either flank.
The Blues are apparently looking to bring Rose in as cover and are prepared to pay up to £15 million for the Englishman, per Dave Kidd in the Mirror.

Augsburg's Abdul Baba Rahman is also apparently still on Chelsea's radar and the Blues will move in for him if they cannot agree terms with Tottenham over Rose.
The 21-year-old left-back is being valued at €25 million (£17.6 million) by Augsburg, per German outlet Kicker (h/t Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC).
However, Rose is seemingly the priority, not least because he will boost Chelsea's necessary quota of homegrown players, per Kidd.
The 25-year-old is also a very capable left-back and is particularly effective in attack—he scored three goals and provided four assists for Spurs last term, per WhoScored.com.
Spurs are unlikely to wish to part with Rose as he is very highly rated by manager Mauricio Pochettino, per Sky Sports News HQ's Lyall Thomas:
But they would surely be tempted by an offer of £15 million, although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has seemingly not yet come forward with an asking price.
The Premier League champions have been somewhat quiet in the transfer window thus far and risk being caught by their rivals who have all strengthened well, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:
Rose would be a decent purchase to bring in as a back-up, but it is not clear whether he could cut it as the first-choice left-back at Stamford Bridge if and when Azpilicueta switches to right-back—his more natural position.
Arguably Rahman is the player with the greater potential, but Rose seems to be the main target for Mourinho ahead of the champions' league opener against Swansea City on Saturday.
