NFL Exec Calls Out Bill Belichick HoF Snub, 'It Is Either Clear and Obvious, or You Whine'
Bill Belichick being snubbed from induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2026 continues to generate reactions from around the league.
While speaking to The Athletic's Mike Sando, one NFL executive called out the lack of consistency among Hall of Fame voters.
"People cannot even align on whether the ball is skidding across the turf with pebbles flying up, and we have 4K video for instant replay," the exec said. "With these candidates, it is either clear and obvious, or you whine. The real issue is, you don't really know. Kraft and Belichick are both Hall of Famers, so stop. Your job is done. Put them in."
The revelation that Belichick failed to reach the 80 percent threshold needed for induction into the Hall of Fame sent shockwaves through the football world last week. The 73-year-old, who is now coaching college football at UNC, won eight career Super Bowl titles and is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in all of sports.
Sando explained that "some voters prioritizing long-waiting candidates over superior ones while the Hall narrowed the funnel leading to enshrinement" created the storm for Belichick to fall short of induction this year.
"I never anticipated selectors voting for all three senior candidates — Roger Craig, Ken Anderson and L.C. Greenwood — at the expense of Belichick, who is clearly a superior candidate. The Hall surely never anticipated this after making changes expressly to favor the most elite candidates," Sando stated. "But that is exactly what Vahe Gregorian, the voter from the Kansas City market, said he did when filling out his ballot. Others also had to do this, or else Belichick would have commanded the necessary 40 out of 50 votes when each committee member voted."
Belichick likely will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year, but not inducting him in his first year on the ballot surely places a stain on the voting process.
