Mitchell Trubisky, Titans Agree to Contract as Cam Ward's Backup in 2026 NFL Free Agency
The Tennessee Titans reportedly came to terms with veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to be the backup to 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Trubisky and the Titans reached a two-year agreement following the start of NFL free agency's legal tampering period on Monday.
Trubisky operated as a reserve option behind Josh Allen on the Buffalo Bills in 2024 and 2025. He's spent the majority of the past five seasons as a backup after opening his career as the Chicago Bears' starter under center from 2017-20.
The Bears selected Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft. In 50 career starts with Chicago, he helped lead the team to a 29-21 record while throwing for 10,609 yards and 64 touchdowns compared to 37 interceptions.
Trubisky struggled and was benched towards the end of his Bears tenure, leading to his first stint as a full-time backup with the Bills in 2021. He went on to join the Pittsburgh Steelers before returning to Buffalo two seasons later.
While the 31-year-old remained squarely behind Allen on the Bills' depth chart, he's looked sharp when called upon as of late.
Across 13 appearances of various lengths over the past two years, Trubisky has completed 72.1 percent of his throws for 492 yards and six touchdowns without getting picked off.
He particularly thrived in Week 18 of the 2025 season, finishing 22-of-29 for 259 yards and four touchdowns during a lopsided 35-8 win over the New York Jets.
Trubisky will now join a Titans quarterback room that is led by one of the most promising, young signal-callers in the league in Ward.
