Sam Darnold 'Hasn't Flinched' Amid Oblique Injury Ahead of Super Bowl 60, Seahawks GM Says
Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed that quarterback Sam Darnold "hasn't flinched" about his oblique injury that he's managed throughout the team's current playoff run, per ESPN's Brady Henderson.
"I think we were all more panicked in what was going on than he was," Schneider said. "He was kind of looking at us like we had three heads, like, 'What's everybody so worried about?' He's like, 'I'll be good.'"
While the Seahawks are currently preparing to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX after clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason picture, their early playoff outlook was a bit murky considering Darnold's health.
He suffered an oblique injury in practice on Jan. 15, two days before Seattle was set to host the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Darnold was listed as questionable prior to the matchup with the 49ers, as backup quarterback Drew Lock took first-team snaps while practicing.
Lock ultimately wasn't needed, as Darnold suited up and helped the Seahawks cruise to a 41-6 win. He threw for 124 yards and one touchdown without getting picked off.
Darnold was limited in practice throughout the week leading up to a clash with the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game, but didn't appear to be affected by his oblique in the contest.
He finished 25-of-36 for 346 yards, tossing three touchdowns without recording a turnover.
Darnold and the Seahawks will now face the Patriots in the Super Bowl on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
