Richie Incognito Named Starting Left Guard for Bills: Latest Comments, Reaction

The Buffalo Bills gave Richie Incognito a chance to resume his NFL career, and he's fully capitalized on the situation in securing a starting spot at left guard.  

Bills head coach Rex Ryan announced Sunday that Incognito will start along with Cordy Glenn at left tackle, as reported by WKBW's Joe Buscaglia.

"Out there thumping again, that was a lot of fun. Out there with your buddies, beating people up. That's what I like to do," said Incognito following Sunday's practice, per ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Incognito didn't play football in 2014 after an ugly end to his tenure with the Miami Dolphins. The team indefinitely suspended Incognito for his role in the bullying scandal surrounding ex-teammate Jonathan Martin, who recently retired.

A new lease on NFL life has evidently treated Incognito well. This has to be his last chance to stick on a roster, and Buffalo has opted to trust that Incognito can hold his own even after being away from the game for a full season.

WBBZ-TV's Bradley Gelber believes the high-profile trade for running back LeSean McCoy and the legal issue involving assistant coach Aaron Kromer helped Incognito quietly acclimate to his latest team:

The Bills will get a tenacious run-blocker in Incognito who can get under opponents' skin. He should help pave the way for McCoy and fit well with Ryan's penchant for a ground-and-pound offensive philosophy.

It's important for Buffalo to have a stellar offensive line that can work together, establish chemistry and be in the best condition possible for whoever takes over under center. A three-way competition between Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel leaves an otherwise seemingly playoff-ready team unsettled at the quarterback position.

While the announcement of Incognito as a starter is notable given his troubled past and rapid recovery from a one-year layoff, Ryan's starting QB of choice will be the declaration fans pay most attention to.
