Bills' Josh Allen On Crutches, Walking Boot in Video After Surgery on Foot Injury, Latest Timeline

Mike ChiariJan 29, 2026

Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen was using crutches and wearing a walking boot during an appearance at the team facility Thursday.

Allen was on hand for the introductory press conference of new head coach Joe Brady, and Bills general manager Brandon Beane revealed Allen "went and had his foot fixed."

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Allen will need between eight and 10 weeks to recover from the procedure..

Led by Allen, the Bills saw their 2025 season end in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs with a 33-30 overtime road loss to the top-seeded Denver Broncos.

Beane first brought up the possibility of Allen requiring surgery last week when he told reporters about the foot injury Allen first suffered in Week 16. Beane noted at the time that even if Allen did undergo a procedure, he would be ready for offseason OTAs.

The 29-year-old Allen won the first NFL MVP Award of his career last season, and he is a finalist for the honor once again this season.

Starting every game for a seventh consecutive season, Allen led the Bills to a 12-5 record and completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 3,668 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while also rushing for 579 yards and 14 scores.

The Bills' five-year streak of winning the AFC East came to an end, but they reached the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season.

Following a 27-24 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card Round, the Bills fell to the Broncos in heartbreaking fashion in the Divisional Round.

In Buffalo's two playoff games, Allen completed 71.6 percent of his passing attempts for 556 yards, four touchdowns and two picks, and he rushed for 99 yards and two scores despite the injury.

With the Bills once again falling short of the Super Bowl, they made the somewhat surprising decision to fire head coach Sean McDermott after nine years on the job and 98 regular-season victories.

This week, the Bills decided to promote Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach, thus maintaining continuity on the offensive side of the ball.

With Brady calling the offensive plays the past two seasons, Buffalo ranked 10th in total offense and second in scoring offense in 2024, and fourth in both total offense and scoring offense in 2025.

If that level of production is going to continue in 2026, a healthy Allen will be required, and a big step toward that was likely taken when he went under the knife.
