PSG Looking for Quick Fix in Defensive Midfield

According to Spanish newspaper Sport (via Inside Spanish Football) 27-year-old Sergio Busquets is firmly on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar, with Thiago Motta on the brink of a switch to Atletico Madrid.

ISF’s report states that talks are at an advanced stage in the deal over Motta, and PSG are desperately searching for a quick fix—with Busquets one of many who could provide a solution.

With Xavi having moved on, Barcelona will surely want to keep hold of the Spanish international.

PSG have the financial muscle to tempt the Spanish champions into selling Busquets, though. However, they’ll need to fight off competition from elsewhere to land him.

As Fichajes.net reports (via Jamie Sanderson of Metro) Arsenal have tabled an opening offer of £24.4 million with the willingness to bid higher if needs be.

However, Sanderson wrote that Barcelona are likely to refuse the Gunners’ approach, while Busquets himself has no desire to leave the club that he joined as a youth.

PSG are also reportedly looking at Real Madrid star Toni Kroos, plus Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez and Xabi Alonso if they fail to land one of the La Liga stars.

It will take something special to lure Busquets away from his beloved Barcelona, but if any club has the ability to do so, it’s PSG.
