Drake Maye's Injury Status, Latest Updates Ahead of Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl 60
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye did not practice on Friday as he deals with a shoulder injury and an illness ahead of Super Bowl 60 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald provided the update on Maye's status.
Earlier in the week, head coach Mike Vrabel was vague when asked about Maye potentially suffering an injury to his throwing shoulder in the team's AFC Championship Game victory over the Denver Broncos.
"I wouldn't say anybody hurt anything," Vrabel said on Tuesday (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk). "This is a sport where there's gonna be things that come up. We'll talk about whatever status each player has for the game once we're required to. We understand that. We were able to function offensively, throw the football, run the football so that's kinda where everybody's at."
Vrabel has been asked multiple times about the shoulder, including Tuesday morning on WEEI Radio.
Questions about Maye's shoulder persisted on Thursday, with Vrabel telling reporters he didn't have much concern about the injury.
Maye, a second-year pro and an NFL MVP finalist, completed 72.0 percent of his passes for 31 touchdowns (eight interceptions) and 4,394 yards while rushing for 450 yards and four more scores this season.
He's been tremendous for a Pats team that engineered a 10-win turnaround from 4-13 to 14-3 in one season en route to New England's 12th-ever Super Bowl appearance.
Maye never took a play off during the AFC Championship Game, a low-scoring affair where neither team got much of anything going offensively.
However, Maye's rushing ability proved hugely beneficial at times, and he ended the afternoon with 65 rushing yards and a touchdown.
One can guess that Maye will do everything he can to play and be in the best possible shape as the Patriots search for their NFL record seventh Lombardi Trophy. At this point, there isn't anything reported indicating Maye would actually miss the game.
He'll also have nearly two weeks to get ready with the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks enjoying a bye week before the Super Bowl goes down on Sunday, Feb. 8.
