Alcaraz will take on Alexander Zverev on Friday as he looks to complete the career grand slam with a victory in Melbourne Park.
The other men's quarterfinal matches will begin on Tuesday night. Novak Djokovic vs. Lorenzo Musetti will kick things off, followed by defending champion Jannik Sinner taking on Ben Shelton.
After Alcaraz built a 3-0 lead in the first set, De Minaur found his footing by winning three straight games to even things up. The Australian star broke Alcaraz in the ninth game and held serve in the 10th to square the match once again at 5-5.
Alcaraz immediately responded with three straight points on serve to go up, then broke De Minaur to survive the first set. He dropped a total of three games over the final two sets to advance.
After the victory, Alcaraz admitted he was rushing early in the match and it knocked him off his rhythm:
"I started the match really well, hitting the ball really well. But Alex puts you in a rush all the time, so you want to hit the ball as hard as you can, which is impossible against him. So from 3-0 until 4-3, 4-4, I wanted everything in a rush, so I took a moment, took a break mentally. I was more patient until the end of the match."
This marked the sixth head-to-head meeting between the two stars. Alcaraz is now 6-0 and has only dropped two sets against De Minaur.
The 22-year-old has yet to drop a set in his first five matches of this tournament. He is two wins away from becoming the youngest men's player to complete a career grand slam. Rafael Nadal currently holds the record, accomplishing the feat by winning the 2010 U.S. Open at the age of 24.
Alcaraz and Zverev, who advanced to the quarterfinal by defeating Learner Tien, have split 12 head-to-head matchups. They previously met in the 2024 Australian Open quarterfinals, which Zverev won in four sets.
