Teair Tart Reportedly Agrees to New Chargers Contract, Full Details and LA's Updated Salary Cap
The Los Angeles Chargers checked one item off of their offseason agenda on Monday.
According to ESPN's Kris Rhim, the Chargers and defensive tackle Teair Tart agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $37.5 million with $20 million guaranteed.
Tart's new contract will be added to a Chargers salary cap that stands at $219 million, per Spotrac. The team's $85.6 million in cap space ranks third in the NFL.

Report: Rodgers Gets 'Rare' Tender

Re-Drafting the Last 5 Rookie Classes 🤯
Tart originally joined the Chargers in 2024 and re-signed with the team on a one-year deal last offseason. He didn't miss a game in each of the last two years, and he recorded 32 total tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2025. Rhim noted that his 12 run stops ranked seventh in the NFL this year.
Locking up Tart with a contract extension provides some continuity for a Los Angeles unit that lost defensive coordinator Jesse Minter after he was named head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. However, there's still a lot to be done if the Bolts want to keep their core intact.
The Chargers also have to address the status of veteran linebackers Khalil Mack and Odafe Oweh, both of whom are unrestricted free agents this offseason. Edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is eligible for an extension after ranking sixth in the NFL with 13 sacks this season.
Things are looking a little more stable on the offensive side of the ball for Los Angeles. The team officially announced the hiring of former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator on Monday.
It's clear that this will be a busy season for the Chargers as they try to maintain their status as playoff contenders in the competitive AFC.
