Australian Open 2026 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Sunday's Bracket
Seven of the eight singles matches that took place on Sunday at the 2026 Australian Open were won in straight sets.
Coco Gauff was the only singles player to win her Sunday match after dropping a set.
Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka were their normal dominant selves in Melbourne.
Sunday's matches didn't deliver much from an entertainment perspective, but the victories by top players should set up a handful of blockbuster matches in the final three rounds.
Men's Singles
1 of 2
No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz def. No. 19 Tommy Paul, 7-6 (6), 6-4, 7-5
No. 3 Alexander Zverev def. No. 16 Francisco Cerundolo, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4
No. 6 Alex De Minaur def. No. 10 Alexander Bublik, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1
No. 25 Learner Tien def. No. 11 Daniil Medvedev, 6-4, 6-0, 6-3
Carlos Alcaraz played at a level that American Tommy Paul could not reach for three sets.
The No. 1 seed knocked out the No. 19 seed in three sets to keep his perfect run alive in Melbourne.
Alcaraz has not dropped a set yet, but he will be challenged more in the final three rounds.
Australian Alex De Minaur is next up for the Spaniard. De Minaur handled No. 10 seed Alexander Bublik with ease. De Minaur lost just two games in the final two sets.
Alexander Zverev, the No. 3 seed, likely awaits the Alcaraz-De Minaur winner. Zverev picked up his first straight-set win of the tournament on Sunday.
American No. 25 seed Learner Tien is the surprise quarterfinalist from the top half of the men's singles bracket. Tien knocked out No. 11 seed Daniil Medvedev in straight sets on Sunday to set up a clash with Zverev.
Tien could be one of three American men in the quarterfinals. Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton will try to advance to the final eight on Monday.
Women's Singles
2 of 2
No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka def. No. 17 Victoria Mboko, 6-1, 7-6 (1)
No. 3 Coco Gauff def. No. 19 Karolina Muchova, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3
No. 12 Elina Svitolina def. No. 8 Mirra Andreeva, 6-2, 6-4
No. 29 Iva Jovic def. Yulia Putintseva, 6-0, 6-1
Coco Gauff faced the most stress of any singles winner on Sunday.
The third-seeded American was forced into a third set by No. 19 seed Karolina Muchova. Gauff took control in the third set after she fell in the second set.
Beating Muchova is a good luck charm for Gauff, who has four tournament titles at events in which she beat Muchova.
Gauff is one of two Americans locked into the final eight. No. 29 seed Iva Jovic earned her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal berth with an outstanding win over Yulia Putintseva.
Jovic goes up against top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarters. Sabalenka has not lost a set yet in Melbourne.
Gauff is matched up with No. 12 seed Elina Svitolina, who continued her perfect run in Australia on Sunday with a straight-set win over No. 8 seed Mirra Andreeva.
At least one more American will join Gauff and Jovic in the quarterfinals. Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula play each other on Monday. Amanda Anisimova is a heavy favorite in her fourth-round match to add to the American quarterfinal contingent.
