Rogers Cup 2015: The Best and Worst Dressed in Canada
The Rogers Cup, the first big test in the US Open series, gives manufacturers of tennis apparel a chance to preview their fall looks. It's sort of a sneak peak at some of the colors and styles we'll be seeing at Flushing Meadows.
Nike is pushing its "University Red" burnt orange color, as well as fluorescent green and blue. Several WTA Tour players wore white tanks with Nike's flouncy skirt in University Red.
Adidas, worn by Ana Ivanovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki and Garbine Muguruza, showcased a mixed-bag of designs in colors ranging from bright blue and green to slate gray.
Usually, the ladies lead the way in on-court fashion. However, at the Rogers Cup, the men out-performed the women. The women took more risks. But it's the men who reaped the rewards.
In a battle of the sexes, the following are the best and worst dressed at the Rogers Cup.
Worst: Agnieszka Radwanska

Ugh, Agga. Agnieszka Radwanska's dress by Lotto has to be the worst outfit at the Rogers Cup. Lotto's attempt at edgy is just awful. Called "metallic lace," this patterned Lux Dress looks like camouflage gone rogue.
Radwanska joked in a Twitter post, published on the WTA website, that the best thing about the dress was "No need to change...I go straight to the disco."
Hopefully it's a disco inferno, where she can burn this dress.
Best: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Perhaps Lotto was trying to depart from traditional bright hues for late summer and early fall or provide some big city style for US Open nights. What they got wrong, Adidas got right with this sharp and sophisticated ensemble for Tsonga.
The three white stripes on the polo sleeves reinforce the Adidas logo on the shorts. The orange wristband complements the stripe around the woven collar.
Worst: Serena Williams

Separately, Serena Williams' Nike ensemble is rather cute. As we saw with her Australian Open dress, Williams looks great in neon colors. However, pairing this neon yellow tank with orange accent underneath with a pleated charcoal gray skirt doesn't work.
It's as if she got stuck in the middle of a good girl/bad girl theme dilemma. The cute, girlish hair bow and bright colors at the top seem out of place with the tailored, pleated dark skirt and boot-like strapping above the sneakers.
Best: Tommy Robredo

Tommy Robredo succeeded where Williams failed when it comes to mixing funky, loud colors with traditional tailoring.
Robredo's Sergio Tacchini neon polo with white shorts work because both pieces are classic in design. The white wristband balances the accents on the shoulder. Classic cuts with playful fabrics and colors is the best way to mix it up.
Worst: Flavia Pennetta
5 of 12
At Wimbledon we saw lots of see-through netting and mesh clothing. Too bad players are taking this "meshy" look into the US Open series. Flavia Pennetta, Caroline Wozniacki and Garbine Muguruza were among the players who wore this gray mesh skirt with a traditional sleeveless top by Stella McCartney.
Best: Novak Djokovic
6 of 12
Like Robredo, Novak Djokovic shows how to blend bold color with classically tailored design. He also proves that yellow and gray go together if styled correctly. The yellow piping down the sides of Djokovic's shorts works well with his polo with gray accents. It's Djokovic's signature look.
Worst: Ana Ivanovic

Blue and green, complementary colors, are usually a can't-miss combo. However, the Adidas tie-dye-looking pattern worn by Ivanovic misfires. Adidas calls this color combination "frozen yellow with silver metallic and midnight indigo." The designs for this adizero dress are reportedly hand printed. Also worn by Simona Halep, the outfit looks dated, circa the 1980s.
Best: Rafael Nadal
8 of 12
You can expect to see Rafael Nadal's Nike Challenger blue, white and neon green challenge outfit throughout the US Open series. The touches of neon green on the bold blue and white strikes the right tone for Nadal's grinding style of play. The right sleeve features his bull logo.
Worst: Victoria Azarenka
9 of 12
Victoria Azarenka's Nike outfit is neither flattering nor interesting. Azarenka has never looked comfortable wearing frilly dresses. She prefers the tomboy style. That's cool. But tomboyish need not be boring. You see more interesting outfits on practice courts.
Best: Nick Kyrgios
10 of 12
OK, Nick Kyrgios' tri-color hair is a bit much. But it takes special talent to coordinate your hair color with your outfit and tennis racket. Although Kyrgios' colorful language gets him into trouble, his fashion sense lands him on the best-dressed list.
Worst: Milos Raonic
11 of 12
Oh no, Canada. It's OK to show love of country, but Milos Raonic went overboard with the giant maple leaf.
The king of compression sleeves, Raonic decided to go with a basic black sleeve and black wristbands instead of his trademark white. What a missed opportunity. A white sleeve to balance those two white stripes and maple leaf might have salvaged this outfit.
Best: Eugenie Bouchard
12 of 12
Although she was out of the tournament after one match, Eugenie Bouchard didn't need a maple leaf to show country pride in this University Red dress by Nike. It's simple yet elegant and sporty, too. The pleated skirt with matching shorts puts this outfit among the best at the Rogers Cup.
