Keon Coleman's Top Trade Landing Spots After Bills Owner's Controversial Comment

Scott PolacekJan 21, 2026

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman has failed to live up to expectations since entering the league, and it would be anything but a surprise if the AFC East team trades him this offseason.

That is especially true after the latest comments from team owner Terry Pegula.

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic noted Wednesday that Pegula blamed the coaching staff for the decision to draft Coleman in the second round in 2024 and added that general manager Brandon Beane was just "being a team player" and didn't value the Florida State product nearly as highly.

With former head coach Sean McDermott now fired, here is a look at some possible landing spots for Coleman in a trade:

  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Houston Texans
  • Tennessee Titans

Coleman hauled in 11 touchdown catches in his final collegiate season at Florida State, and at least some members of the Bills' brass surely saw him as a potential go-to option for Josh Allen down the line.

That likely didn't change much after a solid rookie season with 556 receiving yards, but he didn't take an expected jump in his second year. Instead, he saw his yardage drop to 404 and multiple healthy scratches down the stretch of the campaign for disciplinary reasons and coaching decisions.

He did return for the playoffs and even scored a touchdown in the AFC Divisional Round loss to the Denver Broncos, but that clearly didn't change Pegula's mind about him.

Still, teams that need more wide receivers like the 49ers, Texans and Titans have an opportunity to land a 22-year-old playmaker who is just two years removed from being an early second-round pick.

Coleman still has plenty of potential, and a change of scenery could help him unlock it.

Brandon Aiyuk's future with San Francisco is extremely questionable at best, Jauan Jennings is scheduled for free agency and George Kittle just suffered an Achilles injury. Perhaps no contender is better positioned to take a risk on pass-catching potential than the 49ers, and Coleman could be a solid secondary option alongside Ricky Pearsall.

As for the Texans, their lack of playmakers when Nico Collins was sidelined for their AFC Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots was apparent. Even if Tank Dell is back next year, C.J. Stroud could use another target with a high ceiling.

And Tennessee needs all the offensive weapons around quarterback Cam Ward as it can get.

Whether the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL draft lives up to his potential will determine the long-term viability of the Titans as a contender, and adding talented wide receivers will put him in a better position.

Even if there are questions surrounding Coleman.
