'Miraculous' Caleb Williams Praised by NFL Coach, 'Like Aaron Rodgers In His Prime. Patrick Mahomes'

Chicago Bears fans are surely disappointed following Sunday's 20-17 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round, but they can at least take solace knowing they finally have the franchise quarterback the organization has long been missing.

Caleb Williams' fourth-down touchdown pass to Cole Kmet in the final 30 seconds of regulation that saw him drop back 20-plus yards to avoid pressure and unleash the throw to the corner of the end zone as he was falling backwards was one of the most unbelievable plays of the season and generated plenty of attention.

"Both feet in the air," a defensive coach from another team marveled, per Mike Sando of The Athletic. "This is like Aaron Rodgers in his prime. Patrick Mahomes. It is really hard to throw that ball seven yards deep in the end zone over someone's head that is standing two yards in front of the guy. Miraculous."

While Chicago fell short in overtime, it was another memorable moment for the USC product in a season full of them.

Williams set a franchise-record with seven fourth-quarter comebacks in a single season, some of which will long live in Bears' lore.

One of those comebacks came in the NFC Wild Card Round as he led the team back from a 21-6 deficit against the rival Green Bay Packers with 25 points in the fourth quarter alone. His 4th-and-8 completion to Rome Odunze during that comeback was also an incredible display of athleticism, as he rolled to his left and dropped the ball perfectly over the heads of defenders in the middle of a jump.

Then he found DJ Moore for the game-winning touchdown in the final two minutes, which was fitting since he also hit Moore in overtime for the winning touchdown during the regular-season victory over the Packers.

"We're going to be here for a little bit," Williams told reporters after Sunday's loss. "I'm excited about it. I'm excited about the growth. I'm excited about being able to go back and watch this. I'm excited to being able to get back, and next year being able to learn more than I did this year, keep growing, and us as a team and an organization to be able to keep growing."

With a young offensive core in place, a head coach in Ben Johnson who impressed during his first season and a 24-year-old franchise quarterback in Williams, it's hard not to believe the quarterback's words.

The Bears seem primed to contend for years to come with their "miraculous" signal-caller, even if Sunday ended in disappointment.
