Caleb Williams, Cole Kmet React to Wild Game-Tying TD for Bears vs. Rams in 2026 NFL Playoffs

Andrew PetersJan 19, 2026

The Chicago Bears' season came to an end on Sunday with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, but they still had what will be one of the most memorable plays of the postseason.

After the game, Caleb Williams called his spectacular touchdown pass to Cole Kmet "cool in the moment," but ultimately not what he'll appreciate when he reflects on the season.

"It was cool in the moment," Williams said (2:40 mark). "But I will say I can appreciate the organization, the city of Chicago, the sacrifice, the growth we've had as a team and I can appreciate the growth that I've had, the trust that I've built with him and with my other teams. Those are the things I appreciate."

Kmet described it as a "pop fly."

The Bears trailed by a touchdown with less than two minutes to play, but Williams managed to get them into the redzone. Chicago's season then seemed in jeopardy as it faced a fourth-and-four situation. Things appeared even worse as Williams scrambled backwards while facing pressure from the Rams' defense.

Somehow, Williams turned around and managed to locate Kmet before throwing a perfect pass from about the 40-yard line to find him in the back of the endzone. An extra point tied things up, and the game went into overtime.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said after the game that he considered going for two, but decided not to based on how previous goal-to-goal situations had gone.

"Thought about it. Probably what played a little bit of a factor was, you know, our goal-to-go situations hadn't gone very clean," Johnson told reporters. "Our inside the five plan hadn't worked out quite like we had hoped, and so just felt better about taking our chances there in overtime."

The Bears ran out of miracles in overtime. They got a stop on the Rams' first drive, but Williams threw an interception and gave Los Angeles the chance to win it with just a field goal. The Rams did just that to advance to the NFC championship game.

While Williams, Kmet and the Bears will head into the offseason with the loss on their mind, the fact that Williams made such a play in just his second season is a good sign of what's to come for the former No. 1 overall pick.
