Bears' Ben Johnson Explains Not Going for 2 After Caleb Williams, Kmet's Game-Tying TD vs. Rams
The Chicago Bears pulled off a tremendous game-tying drive at the end of regulation against the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday.
After the game, head coach Ben Johnson revealed that he considered going for two points and the win, but he did't like how his previous goal line stands had gone.
"Thought about it. Probably what played a little bit of a factor was, you know, our goal-to-go situations hadn't gone very clean," Johnson said (3:30). "Our inside the five plan hadn't worked out quite like we had hoped, and so just felt better about taking our chances there in overtime."

The Bears trailed by a touchdown with just under two minutes to play, but managed to get down to the Rams' 14-yard line. After back-to-back incompletions, Caleb Williams and Chicago faced a fourth-and-four situation with the season on the line.
Williams faced pressure from the Rams and scrambled backwards before heaving the ball to tight end Cole Kmet in the endzone for the score.
Even after getting the miracle on the fourth down, Johnson opted to play it safe and send the game to overtime. His hesitancy made sense, as on the previous drive, the Bears faced a goal-to-go situation and ended up turning it over downs.
In overtime, Chicago's defense came up with a big stop to give the ball back to the red-hot Bears' offense, but their momentum came screeching to a halt when Williams threw an interception while trying to connect with DJ Moore. Williams called it a "miscommunication."
"Just a miscommunication between him and I," Williams told reporters. "Tried to flatten him off under the safety and he kept it vertical from what I saw in the moment."
After the pick, Matthew Stafford led the Rams into field goal range, and kicker Harrison Mevis won it for Los Angeles.
It's a disappointing end to the season for the Bears, but the fact that Chicago was even playing in the divisional round should be considered a success after the team finished 5-12 a year ago.
