Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy React to 49ers' Blowout NFL Playoff Loss to Seahawks in Video
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed his message to the team following a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday.
"Obviously we're real disappointed with today," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "We obviously didn't have it today. Credit to them."
"I just thanked them for the whole season, how much they battled through everything," he added. "I know everyone in there was sick about tonight, the way that went, in every facet."
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy also reacted to the loss in his postgame press conference.
"Our goal was obviously to come in here, win, and go to the NFC Championship Game and go from there," Purdy said. "But it just got taken away from us. Kyle was talking to us, just about the year and you reflect a little bit. It does feel good in terms of being reminded of guys stepping up and the resiliency. The character and the heart of this team was unlike anything I've ever been a part of."
Purdy finished 15-of-27 for 140 yards and one interception in the loss. He also rushed for 37 yards on five attempts.
The Seahawks immediately set the tone in Saturday's contest, taking a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
San Francisco attempted to climb back into the game with a pair of field goals in the second, but Seattle found the end zone again before the quarter came to a close and held a 24-6 edge at halftime.
The 49ers were eventually held scoreless over the final two quarters as the Seahawks punched their ticket to the NFC Championship Game.
While Saturday's blowout loss represented San Francisco's earliest playoff exit since the 2002 season, the team's ability to navigate through injuries and advance to the divisional round was still admirable.
The 49ers entered the clash with Seattle missing several key players due to health woes including linebacker Fred Warner, edge-rusher Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle, safety Ji'Ayir Brown and defensive end Mykel Williams.
Now, San Francisco will turn its focus towards the offseason.
