Bills' Tyrell Shavers Played 22 Snaps with Torn ACL Injury in Playoff Win vs. Jaguars

Adam WellsJan 14, 2026

Even though Tyrell Shavers' season ended due to a torn ACL suffered in the Buffalo Bills' 27-24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card game, he was able to play through it in the moment.

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters that Shavers played 22 of Buffalo's 34 offensive snaps in the second half, even though the injury occurred in the second quarter of the game.

The injury occurred when the Jaguars punted with 1:14 remaining in the second quarter. Shavers was lined up on the edge when the ball was snapped and his knee buckled as he was attempting to get around the blocker.

McDermott explained on Tuesday that the Bills weren't aware of the extent of Shavers' injury until he was able to undergo further medical testing after the game.

Shavers played a total of 34 offensive snaps and two special teams snaps against Jacksonville. He was only targeted twice as a wide receiver, with his lone reception coming on Buffalo's first offensive possession.

"He embodies what we're all about," McDermott said of Shavers on Tuesday. "... For him to then come back into the game, and then for it to turn out to be what it was is remarkable. Remarkable toughness, remarkable commitment to the team."

The Bills were already thin at receiver going into Sunday's game and came out of it with even less depth. In addition to Shavers' injury, Gabe Davis also tore his ACL against the Jaguars.

Curtis Samuel was listed on the team's first injury report of the week with an elbow issue, but he was a full practice participant leading up to Saturday's AFC Divisional Round game against the Denver Broncos.

Shavers signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent his rookie year on the practice squad and made his NFL debut in Week 5 of the 2024 season.

The 26-year-old appeared in each of Buffalo's first 18 games this season between the regular season and playoffs prior to the injury.

Buffalo and Denver will be the first game of Divisional Round weekend on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
