Tiger Woods Hits Shots with TGL Teammates on Video, Talks Rehab From Back Injury After Surgery

Scott PolacekJan 13, 2026

It may be some time before golf fans see Tiger Woods back on the course for a PGA Tour event, but they at least got to see the all-time great with a club in his hands.

Woods was seen hitting practice shots with his teammates ahead of Tuesday's TGL matchup between Jupiter Links and the New York Golf Club (25:15 mark in the video). He picked up a club and hit some pitch shots, chips and putts alongside teammates Akshay Bhatia, Max Homa and Kevin Kisner.

The team was practicing ahead of the showdown with New York Golf Club's Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young, but Woods is not participating following his Achilles and back surgeries.

He said during an interview with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt that he doesn't have a specific timeline for a return and is gradually working his way back. He isn't going to make a determination on when he will be in competitive formats again until he is consistently playing and back on the course.

"I've been cleared to hit, basically, hit short irons and mid irons," Woods said. "I haven't gone any beyond that.

"... There's a lot that goes into it. My prep is gonna have to be a little bit different from my other procedures I've had in the past. I've had to stay a lot more patient with myself. I get sore faster, I guess, because I'm 50. And that happens."

Woods announced in March he suffered a ruptured Achilles that required surgery and then added to his long history of injuries in October when he underwent surgery to replace a disc in his back.

The 50-year-old has undergone a number of surgeries throughout his career on his back, ankle and knee that have largely prevented him from adding to his illustrious resume of late.

Woods is a 15-time major winner and arguably the greatest golfer in the sport's history, but he didn't participate in a PGA Tour tournament in 2025. The last tournament he played was the 2024 Open Championship in July of that year, and he missed the cut.

It was his third straight missed cut after he also failed to reach the weekend at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.

Last month, Woods told reporters he was "a ways away" from figuring out when he would play in another tournament. That next tournament could be on the PGA Tour, or it could also be on the PGA Tour Champions since he is now 50 years old.

While that could be in the distant future, he at least seemed to take another step Tuesday when he took some swings with his teammates.
