While Tomlin's run was a legendary one, it was probably time for a change in scenery for all parties involved. The Steelers haven't won a playoff game since 2016 and haven't exceeded 10 wins since 2020.
Pittsburgh will also likely be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason, with the future of 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers up in the air. The Steelers will now have the chance to pair a new head coach with a new quarterback of the future.
Under Tomlin, the floor was always high. But in recent years, the ceiling was pretty low. The Steelers need to address a number of needs to raise that ceiling, a task that will no be undertaken by a new head coach.
