'Asinine,' NFL Exec Rips Idea of Packers Firing Matt LaFleur Instead of Trading HC
If the Green Bay Packers decide to part ways with Matt LaFleur this offseason, don't be surprised if they try to trade him first.
"Firing him instead of trading him would be asinine," an NFC executive told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports on Sunday. "I just don't really know who you're hiring that's better if you're Green Bay. But certainly shouldn't pay him to work for someone else next year."
LaFleur, 46, is under contract through the 2026 season, though as Jones reported, "new Packers CEO Ed Policy has said he doesn't wish for someone to coach in a lameduck year. So the Packers will seemingly either extend LaFleur or part ways with him, via a firing or a trade."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
There have been reports that he'll meet with the organization to discuss his future, so a renewal of the relationship still seems most likely.
But you couldn't really blame Packers fans who wanted to see a change. While LaFleur has led the Packers to six postseason appearances in seven seasons, the team has never gotten past the NFC Championship Game under his watch and has now lost three straight playoff games during his tenure.
They also closed the 2025 season with five straight losses, capped off by blowing an 18-point lead to their hated rivals, the Chicago Bears, in Saturday's Wild Card matchup. That has left his future very much up in the air.
