Giants' Russell Wilson Gets New Agent, Addresses NFL Future Amid Retirement Rumors

Scott PolacekJan 8, 2026

Russell Wilson doesn't have any plans to retire, and he is reportedly changing agents ahead of free agency as well.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported Wednesday that Wilson switched agents from longtime partner Mark Rodgers to David Mulugheta of Athletes First. Mulugheta represents quarterbacks such as C.J. Stroud and Justin Fields and will surely look to get Wilson a new deal elsewhere this offseason.

That is because it doesn't look like he will be returning to the New York Giants.

Raanan noted the NFC East team plans on moving forward with Jaxson Dart as the starter and Jameis Winston as his backup. While that could open the door for the 37-year-old to retire, he wants to continue playing.

"Yeah, I'm not blinking," Wilson said Monday. "I know what I'm capable of. I think I showed that in Dallas. I want to do that again and just be ready to rock and roll and be as healthy as possible and be able to play ball."

The "in Dallas" he mentioned was when he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns during an overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in September before Dart assumed the starting role.

He also revealed he played that game with a Grade 2 torn hamstring that prevented him from full movement but is now 100 percent healthy as he seeks a new contract.

There was a time when Wilson's free agency would have been one of the biggest stories in the NFL. After all, he was one of the best quarterbacks of his generation at his peak as a Super Bowl champion and 10-time Pro Bowler, but he hasn't been nearly as effective since leaving the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson was a combined 17-24 during his time with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers before losing all three of his starts with the Giants this past season.

He spent the majority of the 2025 campaign on the bench and probably won't inspire a significant bidding war this offseason. But he is willing to bet on himself and isn't quite ready to hang up the cleats.
