Commanders Reportedly Have 'A Lot of S--t Going On,' Internal Issues Leaked

Doric SamJan 7, 2026

The Washington Commanders made significant changes to their coaching staff this week, and it appears that there was a deeper issue plaguing the franchise throughout the season.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz detailed the disconnect between the Commanders' front office and coaching staff, with one source saying, "There's a lot of s--t going on there."

Schultz explained that the issue of the front office "meddling with the coaching staff on personnel and which players to use" has been "an ongoing problem dating back to 2024" when the Commanders made a surprising run to the NFC Championship Game.

This season, the issue "reached new heights" as Washington disappointingly finished with a 5-12 record with "notable disagreements," according to Schultz. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury mutually agreed to part ways with the team on Tuesday, and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. was fired.

To make matters more problematic, Schultz reported, "I have not gotten the impression [head coach] Dan Quinn wanted to move on from his coordinators."

The Commanders' struggles on the field were due in part to the absence of star quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was limited to just seven games due to various injuries after his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign last season. Washington also had one of the worst defenses in the NFL, ranking last in the league with 384.0 yards allowed per game.

Based on Schultz's reporting, it appears that the Commanders are dealing with some internal strife that won't easily be fixed. Washington will have a lot of questions to answer before ensuring that the organization is aligned with its goals moving forward.
