Travis Kelce Explains What Would Lead Him to Return to Chiefs 'in a Heartbeat'
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce hasn't shut the door on playing a 14th season in the NFL.
The 11-time Pro Bowler addressed his future in the newest episode of the New Heights podcast (via Rachel McRady of People).
"I think, yeah, just being a regular human for a couple weeks, maybe a month or so, trying to figure out what I'm gonna do next in terms of my future in football," he said. "And I think, you know, I've talked to a few people in the facility already, you know, having the exit meetings and everything, and, they know where I stand at least right now."

In terms of a return, Kelce added "would do it in a heartbeat" if he feels he can physically handle the rigors of another season.
One would lean toward him retiring due to a few different factors.
The 36-year-old clearly isn't the aerial threat he once was. His 50.1 receiving yards per game were the fewest of his career over a full season, and his 11.2 yards per catch were his third-lowest.
While it's not a topic he has discussed to great length, Kelce has occasionally provided some insight into the toll of his playing career and how he has contemplated walking away from the game.
Perhaps the single biggest variable at play is the fact the Chiefs are in the midst of a transition.
Kansas City missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is recovering from tears to his left ACL and LCL. It would be hasty to draw too many long-term conclusions about the franchise, but general manager Brett Veach can't simply run it back and expect the Chiefs to be a title contender in 2026.
From Kelce's perspective, it made a lot less sense to retire when the team was getting to the Super Bowl with regularity. The bargain becomes less worth it if you're not even reaching the postseason.
Unlike a lot of his peers, Kelce is also set up perfectly for life after football thanks to his podcast and broad mainstream popularity. He won't be far from the spotlight if he's not in the NFL.
The surefire Hall of Famer may nonetheless decide the opportunity to play at least one more year is too good to pass up.
