MLB Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz on Aroldis Chapman, Tyson Ross and More
Cincinnati Reds bullpen ace Aroldis Chapman can be the pitcher who puts fear into the hearts of any batter who steps into the batter's box.
The heart attack factor can go up significantly when he is facing a left-handed batter. Chapman's power could also help a number of contending teams get over the top in the pennant race.
The Arizona Diamondbacks don't appear to be in contention. They have a 49-51 record as of Friday and are seven games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West and 6.5 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants, who are currently holding down the Senior Circuit's two wild-card positions.

Nevertheless, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the Diamondbacks are interested in acquiring Chapman from the Reds and then extending his contract:
"Sources: #DBacks want to land Chapman with idea of extending him past 2016. New TV deal starts next season. Team again poised to spend big.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 31, 2015"
The Diamondbacks will be the beneficiaries of a new television deal beginning with the 2016 season, and that will allow them to spend more and compete harder when it comes to acquiring difference-making players.
Chapman certainly fits that description with his 104-plus mph fastball. The left-handed Chapman has a 1.65 earned-run average this season along with an eye-opening 77 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.

San Diego pitching stud Tyson Ross is also a viable trade candidate at the deadline, and he could be one of the most important movers of the day.
Ross (7-8, 3.38 ERA, 1.386 WHIP) and hard-throwing reliever Craig Kimbrel (2.68 ERA, 56 K's in 40.1 innings) are both available, and Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Padres and Houston Astros may be close to making a deal:
"Sources: Astros-Padres believed to be working on "something big." They've talked Tyson Ross and Craig Kimbrel. San Diego could use a CF.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) July 31, 2015"
Ross would give the first-place Astros a strong starting arm to plug into their rotation, while Kimbrel is capable of dominating as a closer.
The Astros have a rich farm system, and the Padres would like to dip in and find a center field prospect who could play a key role in their organization for years to come.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Astros will have competition in acquiring Ross from the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays.
"tyson ross drawing intense interest from many. astros may be at forefront. jays, cubs, dodgers among many, many others.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) July 30, 2015"
Jayson Stark of ESPN reported the New York Yankees are in the mix for Kimbrel, and that they could complete a deal for the power pitcher before the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
The Detroit Tigers made news Thursday by trading David Price to the Blue Jays, according to Mike Axisa of CBS Sports, and they may not be done yet.

The Tigers could move power-hitting outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, and according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports and the MLB Network, Baltimore could be a destination:
"#Orioles interested in Yoenis Cespedes, but their farm system is thin. #Tigers
— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) July 30, 2015"
However, if the Tigers don't believe they can get the appropriate talent out of the Orioles' minor league system, they could hold onto him or move him to a team like the suddenly hot Chicago White Sox, according to Heyman.
Don't be surprised if the Philadelphia Phillies make a last-minute trade on deadline day and move outfielder Ben Revere.
According to Rosenthal, Revere could be on the move to an American League team. That team could be the Orioles, per Rosenthal (h/t MLB Daily Dish), who are also thinking about Gerardo Parra.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports the Red Sox would "love" to move first baseman Mike Napoli, but so far they have found little interest in the slugger. Napoli has had a disappointing season thus far, as the burly slugger has just 12 home runs and a 37 RBI along with a disappointing .383 slugging percentage.
