Tom Brady Hypes Colston Loveland as a 'Mini Gronk' During Bears vs. Lions
Few people in NFL history know how important a dominant tight end can be for a quarterback better than Tom Brady, so Chicago Bears fans should be excited about what the legend said Sunday.
While calling the game between the Bears and Detroit Lions, Brady called rookie tight end Colston Loveland "a little mini Gronk" in reference to his former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate Rob Gronkowski.
Considering Gronkowski is widely considered one of the greatest tight ends of all-time, that bodes well for Loveland's future.
Despite losing 19-16, Loveland was a bright spot for the Bears with 10 catches for 91 yards and one touchdown. He has largely been a revelation in Ben Johnson's offense and is far more than just a safety valve for quarterback Caleb Williams.
While the Michigan product started slowly, his breakout effort came on Nov. 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals when he tallied six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, the latter of which was the game-winner in the final minute.
From there, he scored touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Lions while finishing the season with back-to-back games of more than 90 receiving yards.
His athleticism and size makes him a matchup nightmare in the open field for opposing defenses, and he has established noticeable chemistry with Williams in just his first season.
Loveland is part of a promising young offensive core in Chicago alongside Williams, Luther Burden III, Rome Odunze and Kyle Monangai, and this year's division title may just be a sign of things to come.
Especially if the tight end continues to remind Brady and others of Gronkowski.
