Napheesa Collier To Miss Unrivaled Season
3 of 3
One of the biggest stars in women's basketball will miss the 2026 Unrivaled season.
Napheesa Collier will undergo surgery on both ankles that will keep her off the court for four-to-six months, forcing her to miss the second season of the Unrivaled basketball league and, potentially, the start of the Minnesota Lynx WNBA season.
"The surgery is expected to occur next week, a source briefed on the situation told The Athletic," Ben Pickman reported on January 1.
Not only is she an All-Star in the WNBA, but Collier is a co-founder of the Unrivaled league, making her absence that much more significant.
On August 2, Collier suffered a sprained right ankle against the eventual WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces, then tore ligaments against the Phoenix Mercury during the playoffs.
Pickman wrote:
"Collier said on Dec. 17 that she did not need surgery on her left ankle and hoped that through rehab, she would be ready for Unrivaled's season, which starts on Jan. 5. Her medical team, involving staff from Unrivaled and the Lynx, determined she needs multiple procedures following additional exams during Unrivaled's preseason."
Collier averaged 25.7 points per game in the inaugural Unrivaled season, with 10.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and two steals. She was among the best players in the game and likely would have looked to follow up on her 2025 performance with another prolific season.
Now, she will have to sit out the year, hoping her procedures to not eat too much into her WNBA season as she looks to lead the Lynx back to the championship round.
