NFL Rumors on Aaron Rodgers' Future Amid Retirement Buzz, Steelers' QB Plans Discussed
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' future is up in the air as his team enters a de-facto AFC North title game on Sunday evening against the Baltimore Ravens.
On Saturday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler provided an update on the 42-year-old signal-caller and four-time NFL MVP alongside notes on the team's future at the position.

"The Steelers have been open to Aaron Rodgers returning for another year," Fowler said on SportsCenter. "That's been the feeling there throughout the season. They've been happy with the way things have gone. They've felt he's held up physically for the most part. He and [head coach Mike Tomlin] have good chemistry together.
"This game could determine a lot. You know, if they fail to make the playoffs, does Rodgers say, 'I'm gonna go.'
"And look, we do shows all offseason, so we know that we're not going to get clarity right after the game on what Aaron Rodgers is going to do. It's going to be months probably, so we'll see what happens.
"But they're open to it. They also need a bridge quarterback. They can take one high in this draft for sure. They've been scouting that position for the better part of the last few years intently, so we'll see what happens."
Rodgers has been in the NFL for 21 seasons. He's a four-time NFL MVP, 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLV champion. It's possible he could hang it up after this year, and that seemed to be where he was leaning last June when he spoke with Pat McAfee.
However, the door to return in 2026 seemed to be open a bit, per commensd relayed by ESPN's Brooke Pryor last Wednesday.
"I'm thinking about this week, but obviously I'm 42 years old and I'm on a one-year deal," Rodgers said. "So you know what the situation is. Whenever the season ends, I'll be a free agent. So that'll give me a lot of options if I still want to play. I mean, not a lot of options, but there'll be options, I would think, maybe one or two, if I decide I still want to play.
"I've enjoyed this experience, and everybody in Pittsburgh has been fantastic to me on and off the field. And it's really what I was hoping for this experience was, it's been even better than I was hoping."
Rodgers has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,028 yards, 23 touchdowns (one rushing TD as well) and seven interceptions. He's fared well in Pittsburgh and now looks to lead the Steelers into the playoffs when the rival Ravens roll into town.
Sunday could mark Rodgers' last game ever, or perhaps his last game as a Steeler before he leaves for another team. On the flip side, it's certainly possible Rodgers' Steeler tenure continues into the postseason and perhaps into 2026.
We'll find out down the road what Rodgers decides, but in the meantime, the 2025 regular season will end with a massively important game on Sunday evening in Pittsburgh.
