Latest NFL Rumors on Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh's Job Security with Steelers, Ravens

Scott PolacekJan 4, 2026

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh are AFC institutions at this point, but the job status for both is a topic of interest heading into Sunday's night's matchup for the division title.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano reported on Tomlin and Harbaugh on Wednesday, although it doesn't seem like either team is anxious to make a move.

"That chatter is out there, but I've heard nothing from inside either building to indicate either team is contemplating a change," Graziano wrote. "Most of the speculation seems to stem from fan discontent, and neither the Steelers nor the Ravens are the type of organization to make compulsive decisions based on fan discontent."

Even though the loser of Sunday's game will miss the playoffs entirely, Graziano added that he "would be extremely surprised if Tomlin and Harbaugh aren't back in their current jobs next season."

Fowler also reported that he doesn't "anticipate" the Ravens moving on from their head coach even though "there is at least some intrigue leaguewide about whether Harbaugh and owner Steve Bisciotti could have big-picture talks about the future at some point. In other words, I'm not totally getting shut out when I knock on those doors."

The race for the AFC North crown is straightforward at this point with the winner of Sunday's game taking the title and putting themselves in position to host a playoff contest. Pittsburgh would also win the division with a tie.

Yet both teams surely envisioned a better scenario than battling for the AFC's final playoff spot in Week 18.

Harbaugh even had to address his job status earlier this month, while Tomlin could be well on his way to another early playoff exit even if the Steelers win Sunday.

Pittsburgh hasn't won a playoff game since the 2016 campaign and has developed a reputation of late under its head coach of being a team that is good enough to reach the postseason but not good enough to beat the league's elite championship contenders.

At 9-7 this season with a chance to fall out of the playoffs entirely, it looks like the Steelers are facing a similar fate once again.

But, given the latest reporting, it also looks like Tomlin will be back for a 20th season as the team's head coach.
