Zach BacharDec 30, 2025

Chicago Bears safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson appears to be open to the addition of a new teammate after the Dallas Cowboys released cornerback Trevon Diggs on Tuesday.

With Diggs now searching for a new home ahead of the playoffs, Gardner-Johnson posted a bear emoji along with a pair of eyes in a post on X.

Diggs will be free to sign with any team if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

The two-time Pro Bowler told NFL Network's Jane Slater that he's looking to play for a team that's gearing up for a postseason run.

Chicago has already clinched a playoff spot by winning the NFC North, boasting a record of 11-5. The Bears would earn the NFC's No. 2 seed by defeating the Detroit Lions in Week 18.

Diggs established himself as a key piece of Dallas' secondary early in his career, earning a first-team All-Pro selection during his sophomore season in 2021 after recording a league-leading 11 interceptions.

He followed it up with another Pro Bowl year, but injuries have prevented him from making a consistent impact since. Diggs has appeared in just 21 total games since the start of the 2023 season.

He was limited to a mere eight games this year due to a right knee issue as well as a concussion that he suffered during an accident at home.

Diggs has struggled to stand out in 2025, recording 25 tackles and one tackle for loss. He's also given up 17.9 yards per reception when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.

Still, a change of scenery could help Diggs look like his former self. Chicago's defense has excelled at generating takeaways this season, ranking No. 1 in the NFL with 22 interceptions.

Gardner-Johnson is familiar with Diggs' situation, as he signed with the Bears on Oct. 29 after he was released by the Houston Texans.

Chicago also has defensive backs coach Al Harris, who served in the same role with the Cowboys during Diggs' tenure.
