Jerry Jones Not Pleased 'At All' with Cowboys' Defense amid Matt Eberflus Rumors

Andrew PetersDec 26, 2025

It's no secret that the Dallas Cowboys have had one of the worst defenses in the NFL this year.

Unsurprisingly, owner Jerry Jones is not happy with what he's seen from defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and the rest of the defense.

"No. No. Not at all," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "We have a lot of work to do over there. But we can do it."

The Cowboys rank third-to-last in yards allowed per game (376.8) and second-to-last in points allowed per game (29.8). A rough defensive outing against the Washington Commanders, who were without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, certainly didn't help Eberflus' case.

Amid the lack of defensive success, Jones said last week that a decision about Eberflus might not be "difficult," although he plans to wait until the end of the season to make any changes.

"I might not count it as difficult," Jones told reporters. "It's certainly something that we have to do. And that is to look at the entire year and look at what our options are, and how to correct it so we're not here at the same time next year. Now, that's not uncommon to evaluate at this time of the year — your entire coaching staff. And, obviously, the target is on him because of our statistical, as well as actual play on the defensive side of the ball, but that goes with it."

Jones previously defended Eberflus in October, saying he's someone "I want in the foxhole with me." Now, it seems Jones' tone has changed.

The Cowboys are heading toward their second consecutive season without a playoff berth, and their problems can't be blamed on the offense. Behind a tremendous year from quarterback Dak Prescott, Dallas leads the NFL in yards per game (398.6) and has recorded the fifth-most points per game (28.4).

It's clear something needs to change on defense, and that change might include finding a new defensive coordinator.
