Pete Alonso Hasn't Heard from Team USA, 'Would Love' to Play WBC Amid Orioles Contract

Andrew PetersDec 22, 2025

Pete Alonso is interested in suiting up for Team USA again at the World Baseball Classic, but he's still waiting on his invitation.

Alonso, who recently signed a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles, revealed on Foul Territory that no one has reached out to him about playing in the tournament, though he did say he had conversations about it last year.

"I'd love to do it. It's a sick tournament, it's a great event, I think it's phenomenal for the sport" Alonso said. "But yeah, I haven't heard anything. Again, I'd love to do it. [Mark DeRosa] if you wanna give me a call, it's fine. It'd be great."

Team USA's roster is still lacking a first baseman, and Alonso is one of the best American first baseman in the majors, so it seems like he would be the most logical choice to join the team.

Whether manager Mark DeRosa will give him a call remains to be seen, but Team USA will need to field the best roster possible to avoid another silver medal this time around.
