ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the NFL will review the altercation between Metcalf and the fan for potential discipline.
The Detroit Free Press' Andrew Birkle and Christian Romo were able to contact the fan involved, Ryan Kennedy. According to Birkle and Romo, Kennedy was not ejected during the stadium, though the team did discuss the situation with him.
Kennedy gave his side of the altercation to Birkle and Romo, saying that he called Metcalf by his full name (DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf).
"He doesn't like his government name," Kennedy said, per Birkle and Romo. "I called him that and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I'm a little shocked. Like everyone's talking to me. I'm a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby."
After the game, Metcalf left without speaking to reporters. Meanwhile, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin offered no comment.
Metcalf's frustration also boiled over to the field, as evidenced by this abysmal sequence from the first half.
Metcalf produced just one catch for five yards despite leading Pittsburgh with six targets in the first two quarters. The 28-year-old has reached the 100-yard mark just twice this season and entered Sunday's game with 55 receptions for 808 yards and six touchdowns.
The Steelers are seeking their third straight win as they try to pull away in the AFC North, but they're facing a motivated Lions team that is hoping to avoid falling behind in the playoff race in the NFC. Pittsburgh needs Metcalf to be at his best as the regular season winds down, but it's not clear if he will be able to play next week.
