Taylor Swift Reveals How Her Mom Convinced Her to Start Dating Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce's very public attempts to present Taylor Swift with a friendship bracelet during the early phase of the Eras Tour in 2023 caught the attention of a very prominent member of Swift's family.

On episode four of the Taylor Swift: The End of an Era documentary series on Disney Plus (h/t Rachel McRady of People), Andrea Swift, Taylor's mom, explained she helped set up her daughter with Kelce:

"I'm looking at the headlines and perusing around on the Internet and I see that this guy came to your show and he brought a friendship bracelet and wants to meet you. So I call up my resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs, my cousin Robin, and I go, 'Tell me about this guy named Travis Kelce.'"

According to Andrea, Robin's response was to say that Kelce is "the nicest guy" and "really loves his mom." That led to Andrea trying to figure out a way to get her daughter to meet him because Taylor said she was "very non-athlete" when it comes to dating.

Taylor's recollection of how she was persuaded was her mom saying "something to the effect of, 'You gotta start doing something different.'"

Kelce said on the New Heights podcast in July 2023 that he attended the Eras Tour on a stop at Arrowhead Stadium that summer and he wanted to give Swift a bracelet with his phone number on it, but "she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs she sings."

Even though his courtship didn't necessarily get off to the best start, it ended well because Kelce and Swift went public with their relationship in September 2023 when she attended a Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears.

It was less than two years after the public reveal that the couple announced they were engaged to be married.

All of this is to say Andrea could set up a matchmaking service if she really wanted to.
