Nolan Arenado's Potential Trade Suitor Revealed amid MLB Rumors, Cardinals Buzz

Doric SamDec 18, 2025

St. Louis Cardinals veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado is expected to be on the move this winter, and a potential landing spot reportedly has emerged.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Arenado is considered "a possibility for the Los Angeles Angels, who are negotiating a buyout agreement with third baseman Anthony Rendon." Rosenthal added that "no trade is imminent, however," and the market for Arenado "will become better defined after Bregman and Eugenio Suárez sign their free-agent deals."

Rosenthal had reported earlier this week during an episode of Foul Territory that Arenado was among the players expected to be traded by the Cardinals this offseason. He also named reliever JoJo Romero, first baseman Willson Contreras and left fielder Brendan Donovan as likely trade candidates.

Arenado appeared in 107 games in 2025 and hit a career-low .237 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI. The eight-time All-Star is far from the player he once was, but he could bounce back if he's able to stay healthy.

The Angels went 72-90 this past season and are unlikely to contend for a World Series title in 2026, but perhaps a change in scenery could be enough to help Arenado get closer to his old form.
