Clay Holmes, Joe Ryan to Play for USA at 2026 WBC, Updated List of Roster Commits

Adam WellsDec 17, 2025

Having already loaded up on position players, Team USA is starting to fill out its pitching staff for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The U.S. announced on Wednesday that New York Mets pitchers Clay Holmes and Nolan McLean will be on the roster for the upcoming tournament. Minnesota Twins star Joe Ryan was also added to the roster.

Here is the updated list of players committed to play for the United States in the WBC.

Position Players: Kyle Schwarber, Gunnar Henderson, Will Smith, Aaron Judge, Brice Turang, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Corbin Carroll, Bobby Witt Jr., Cal Raleigh

Pitchers: Paul Skenes, Clay Holmes, Nolan McLean, Joe Ryan

Paul Skenes had been the only pitcher on the USA roster for months after he originally committed to playing in the WBC in May.

Manager Mark DeRosa and his staff have been working to add arms, but some of their options didn't pan out. DeRosa previously revealed Max Fried turned down an offer to pitch for the United States.

Wednesday's additions help raise the ceiling for America in what is expected to be a very competitive field.

Ryan is the most accomplished of the three new pitchers. He is coming off his first All-Star appearance in 2025, recording a 3.42 ERA and 194 strikeouts in 171 innings for the Minnesota Twins.

Amid all the turmoil around the Mets' late-season collapse, Holmes was a huge success story after signing a three-year, $38 million contract in free agency. He converted after pitching exclusively out of the bullpen from 2019 to '24.

Holmes set career-highs in innings (165.2), strikeouts (129) and finished with a 3.53 ERA.

McLean, a third-round draft pick by the Mets in 2023, showed tremendous promise in eight starts after being called up in August. The right-hander struck out 57 in 48 innings.

The 2026 WBC takes place from March 5-17. Team USA will begin play on March 6 against Brazil at Daikin Park in Houston.
