Latest Rumors on Alex Bregman's MLB Free Agency as New Team Linked to Contract
The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to target Alex Bregman in free agency, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Heyman noted that "it'll be interesting to see" how Arizona's pursuit of Bregman affects the team's trade negotiations with the Boston Red Sox involving star second baseman Ketel Marte.
Bregman spent the 2025 season in Boston before opting out of the final two years of his contract on Nov. 3.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Tuesday that Arizona would "certainly have the financial flexibility" to make a hefty offer to Bregman in free agency following a potential trade involving Marte.
The Diamondbacks will have some competition for their reported pursuit of the three-time All-Star, as he's also been linked to the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Red Sox.
Bregman is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he hit .273 with 18 home runs, 28 doubles and 62 RBI while posting an .821 OPS in 114 games. It's worth noting that he missed time during the season due to a quad injury.
His track record still makes him one of the top free agents available during the offseason, as he recorded at least 23 homers and 75 RBI in each season from 2022-24.
Bregman has also proven to be a postseason contributor, amassing 19 home runs and compiling a .791 OPS across 102 career playoff games.
As for the Diamondbacks, they're looking to end a brief two-year postseason drought after advancing to the World Series in 2023.
