Shane Victorino Says Tearful Goodbye to Boston After Being Traded to Angels

Kyle NewportJul 28, 2015

The Boston Red Sox traded Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, and when it came time to say goodbye to his former team, the veteran outfielder couldn't help but get emotional.

The 34-year-old had been with the Red Sox ever since the 2013 season, when he helped the team win a World Series in an emotional year following the Boston Marathon bombing. Everything he had been through with the city made this farewell extremely tough.

Victorino gave a tearful goodbye to everyone in Boston and thanked the club for giving him a shot. He had a hard time speaking through the tears at times, but he managed to get through the press conference.

Red Sox fans fell in love with Victorino's walk-up song, Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds," back in 2013.

The song was a sign of unity during the "Boston Strong" movement. Out of respect for the city of Boston, Victorino revealed he would be changing his walk-up song on his new team, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe:

Victorino also thanked Red Sox Nation on Twitter:

While professional sports are viewed as business, moments like this remind everyone that there are emotions involved.
