Allen Lazard Released by Jets, Top Landing Spots Amid 2026 NFL Playoff Race
The New York Jets aren't done making late-season changes by reportedly releasing Allen Lazard one day after head coach Aaron Glenn announced defensive coordinator Steve Wilks' firing.
New York announced on Tuesday that Lazard has been released.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported the Jets agreed to release Lazard at his request so he can potentially sign with a playoff team if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Lazard's return to the Jets this season was a bit of a surprise since he had been mentioned as a potential trade or cut candidate. Instead, he agreed to restructure his deal in April to lower his 2025 base salary to $2.25 million.
The 30-year-old was used sparingly in the Jets' offense this season. He caught a total of 10 passes for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 appearances.
Lazard has been on the field for fewer than 30 percent of New York's offensive snaps in each of the past three games. He was a healthy scratch in Weeks 10-11 and hasn't played more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps since Week 8.
Even though Lazard is unlikely to have a significant impact on a playoff roster, he does have speed that can play up on the outside for a team in need of pass-catching depth.
The Pittsburgh Steelers stand out just because Lazard spent his first six NFL seasons between the Jets and Green Bay Packers playing with Aaron Rodgers. They don't really have a strong outside weapon next to DK Metcalf.
Calvin Austin III ranks second on the Steelers among wide receivers in yards (309). The Buffalo Bills previously signed Brandin Cooks on Nov. 25 after he was released by the New Orleans Saints, so they might want to pursue Lazard just as insurance.
Another potential option is the Baltimore Ravens because Zay Flowers is their only pass-catcher with more than 360 receiving yards.
Lazard could still be useful in a situation with capable quarterback play. He is only one year removed from having 530 yards and six touchdowns.
Adding a player at this late stage of the season doesn't give him a lot of time to get familiar with the offense and develop a rapport with the quarterback, but Lazard is a better player than one who usually becomes available after Week 15.
