Updated Ketel Marte Landing-Spot Rumors as Yankees Among MLB Teams on No-Trade List

Doric SamDec 15, 2025

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is expected to be a top trade candidate this offseason, but multiple teams won't be an option for his next landing spot.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, people "briefed on his contract" revealed that Marte "has a five-team no-trade list – the Athletics, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, [San Francisco] Giants and [St. Louis] Cardinals."

The Diamondbacks have been focused on improving their pitching staff through the early part of the offseason, re-signing starting pitcher Merrill Kelly to a two-year, $40 million deal and signing fellow right-hander Michael Soroka to a one-year, $7.5 million deal. A club source told Rosenthal that those deals "changes little in the team's approach to trading" Marte.

A three-time All-Star, Marte "is owed $102.5 million over the next six seasons, including $41 million in deferrals that do not get paid out until 10 years after the money is earned," per Rosenthal. It was noted that Arizona "almost certainly will seek young pitching in any package" in exchange for the 32-year-old, who's coming off another strong year with 28 home runs and 72 RBI in 2025.

Still, the longer the Diamondbacks wait, they run the risk of Marte gaining full control over his next destination. Rosenthal added that he "will gain full no-trade protection as a player with 10 years of major-league service, five consecutive with the same team, on the 10th day of the 2026 season."

Trading Marte would undoubtedly garner a major haul for Arizona, so the team should be motivated to get a deal done before the start of the 2026 campaign.
