2025 MLB Free Agents Rumors, Predictions for Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, More

Erik BeastonDec 15, 2025

The gem of this free agent class, Kyle Tucker, remains the apple of many an MLB team's eye this off-season.

The 28-year-old former World Series champion is a great bat and a strong defender who can enhance any team he plays for, hence his high asking price and overall value.

What is the latest on the former Astro and Cub, as well as his former teammate, Alex Bregman, amid rumors and reports from the industry's top insiders?

Find out in this collection of them, as well as the three teams interesting in adding Michael King to their rotations.

Could Kyle Tucker Head North to Toronto?

Defending AL champions, the Toronto Blue Jays, already signed a starting pitcher in Dylan Cease, and they may not be done spending big this offseason.

Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reported that "If there's one team willing and able to give outfielder Kyle Tucker the $400 million he seeks in free agency, it's the Toronto Blue Jays, according to many of the agents, executives and managers at baseball's annual winter meetings this week."

Tucker would instantly improve the team's outfield and provide a bat that has been consistently productive in each of his previous stops. He is a player who has not dipped below 4.6 WAR since 2021 and, for that reason among others, is worth a lofty asking price.

Whether he is worth all $400 million over 10 years is another question entirely, but if that is a sticking point, expect only the Blue Jays or, maybe the Dodgers and Mets, to have a realistic shot at bringing him on board.

Prediction: Tucker signs with Toronto as the Blue Jays make a push to return to the World Series

Boston's Familiar Top Target

Boston Red Sox v Toronto Blue Jays

Since the start of free agency, Boston has been linked to several free agents, but as Ken Rosenthal reported for The Athletic, "Free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman still appears to be the Red Sox's No. 1 target, in part because of the defensive upgrade he provided over Rafael Devers."

In his first season in Boston, Bregman helped the Red Sox return to the playoffs while .273, with 18 home runs and 62 RBI. While he was not the dominant defender that he had been during the peak of his career in Houston, the 31-year-old was still a strong on that side of the ball for a Red Sox team that needed it.

After missing out on the big bats of Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso, two players the team had been routinely linked to, Boston needs a good-faith move to keep fans happy and bringing back a player who was a clear difference maker for them in last year's postseason campaign is a step in the right direction.

Prediction: Bregman re-signs with Boston

Three Teams Targeting Michael King

New York Mets v San Diego Padres

Michael King is one of the better starters still available on the free agent market, even after suffering injuries that limited him to just 15 games in 2025.

Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reported on Bluesky that King has been the target of three AL East teams: the Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Baltimore Orioles.

All three teams are in need of starting pitching, none more so than the Orioles, and King would provide an immediate upgrade.

The Yankees know what they would be getting from the former closer-turned-starter, while the Red Sox and Orioles have played him enough to know the excellent stuff King can dish when healthy and at his best.

Two years ago, he was an legitimate Cy Young Award candidate. Time will tell whether he will get back to that level but there are clearly three teams who believe he can and will compete against each other to try for the rights to have the 30-year-old on the mound for the foreseeable future.

Prediction: King signs with Baltimore
