Francisco Lindor, Fernando Tatis Jr. Trade Statuses Revealed in Mets, Padres Rumors

Zach BacharDec 13, 2025

The New York Mets and San Diego Padres are reportedly in trade discussions despite the respective stars of each team being left out of negotiations.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Dennis Lin and Will Sammon of The Athletic, Mets star Francisco Lindor and Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. haven't been involved in trade talks between the two teams.

Instead, the Padres have brought up Nick Pivetta and outfielder Ramón Laureano to go along with relievers Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon and Jeremiah Estrada. Meanwhile, the Mets have been asked about "young major leaguers and all of their top prospects" by San Diego (via Rosenthal, Lin and Sammon).

Tatis' long-term future in San Diego has been the subject of speculation throughout the offseason, but it doesn't appear as though a potential blockbuster trade to New York is currently on the table.

Miller could be a more realistic target for the Mets, although it likely won't be easy to acquire him either. The 2024 All-Star posted a 2.63 ERA across 60 combined games with the Athletics and Padres last season, averaging an impressive 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

New York lost closer Edwin Díaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency, but brought in Devin Williams on a three-year contract worth $45 million.

The Mets' roster will already look vastly different in 2026, with Pete Alonso signing with the Baltimore Orioles and Brandon Nimmo heading to the Texas Rangers in a trade. New York received Marcus Semien from the Rangers in exchange for Nimmo.

The team also brought in Jorge Polanco as a free agent on a two-year, $40 million deal.

It's understandable why the Mets and Padres are holding onto Lindor and Tatis, as both players wrapped up strong 2025 seasons.

Lindor hit .267 with 31 home runs, 31 stolen bases, 35 doubles and 86 RBI while posting an .811 OPS.

As for Tatis, he racked up 25 home runs and 32 steals to go along with a .268/.368/.446 slash line.
