Latest 2025 MLB Free Agents Rumors and Predictions on Top-Ranked Players
Despite Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber, and Robert Suarez being off the market, there are still high-profile free agents available for teams to target, including the prize of this offseason, Kyle Tucker.
Find out the latest on the former Cub and Astro, as well as potential landing spots for Cody Bellinger and Michael King, with this collection of rumors and predictions.
Latest on Kyle Tucker
1 of 3
The New York Mets have checked in on the prize of this free agent class, Kyle Tucker.
Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported that the "Mets, Yankees and most all big-market teams (and some others — Orioles) have checked in on Kyle Tucker, one of 5 players to post at least a 4 WAR each of the last 5 seasons (Judge, Ohtani, Soto, Ramirez)."
Tucker hit .266 for the Cubs, with 22 home runs, 73 RBI, an .841 OPS, and a 4.5 WAR.
A consistent bat who elevates the teams he plays for, it makes sense that big market teams and those looking to enhance their lineups would jump at the opportunity to get him under contract.
For the Mets, specifically, signing Tucker would provide a boost to an outfield that they desperately need following the exit of Brandon Nimmo in the trade with the Texas Rangers for Marcus Semien.
It would also help reverse some of the backlash the team has faced following the departures of Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz since the start of the offseason.
Prediction: Tucker signs with a contender, but not the Mets
Increased Interest in Cody Bellinger

MLB.com reported, "The Mets' top competition for Bellinger figures to be the crosstown Yankees, the team he starred for in 2025. Re-signing Bellinger remains a top priority for the Yanks, but his market could also include the Reds, Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays and Angels, according to Scott Boras, who represents Bellinger."
Bellinger hit .272 with 98 RBI and 29 home runs in his first and, perhaps, only season with the Yankees. A career renaissance of sorts following a disappointing end to his stint in Chicago, the former National League MVP with the Dodgers understandably has a robust market given his defensive playmaking abilities.
That he can play first base in addition to his regular outfield position makes him one of the more versatile players still available.
There is not a team mentioned that could not benefit from having him in their lineup, as long as the Bellinger that signs with them is the one we saw in Los Angeles and in the Bronx last season.
Prediction: Bellinger rejoins the Yankees
Michael King Remains Mets Target
3 of 3
One of the Mets' biggest shortcomings in 2025 was their starting pitching and despite the arrival of young, promising pitching in Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong, and Brandon Sproat, there are still plenty of questions about how formidable the team's starting rotation will be in 2026 as it currently stands.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that former Yankee and Padres righty Michael King remains "a top target."
One season after a Cy Young-worthy 2024, King struggled with injury and played in just 15 games, going 5-3 with a 3.44 ERA and 76 strikeouts.
His WAR dropped from 4.1 to 1.2, but the tools are still there for him to be an above-average starter, for a team that needs one.
Prediction: Mets sign King
